Yeah, International Men’s Day Is A Thing

Every so often you will hear men complain that just like women have International Women’s Day, men should have one too. Well, they do. On November 19th International Men’s Day is marked around the world.

Objectives of International Men’s Day include a focus on men’s and boy’s health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion for men to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care while highlighting the discrimination against them- http://www.internationalmensday.com/

The Hullabaloo Surrounding International Men’s Day

There are those (women mostly) who believe that International Men’s Day shouldn’t  be a thing. Of course men don’t agree with that opinion. Women have made the argument that women face certain inequalities and challenges that men simply don’t, therefore there is no need for the day. Some women and most men on the other hand are all for International Men’s Day. They acknowledge that men have also achieved amazing feats and face struggles,  so it’s only right to honor that on the day.

Most Kenyans don’t mark the day,  most don’t even know that the day exists.  When it comes to International Men’s Day, I’m very sure KOT will have a field day. Men will say we should mark the day while women will disagree. We could go on forever on who is right and who isn’t when it comes this day. We won’t.

This year’s theme is Stop Male Suicide. It is definitely a theme we can get behind whether you are for International Men’s Day or not. Statistics show that more and more men are taking their own lives as a result of mental and physical illnesses. It will be great to shine a spotlight on such an important problem.

Celebrate The Men In Your Life

Obviously the day will be much more that spotlighting suicide in males. As stated above in the objectives of the day, you can celebrate their achievements and contributions too.

Celebrate all the men in your life…………..

That said, this week on Yululate’s blog, we are celebrating men the only way we can. We are all for the International Men’s Day. We also think that it should just to celebrate the  men in your life. Once in a while take a man out, buy him a gift, tell them you appreciate them.

In line with marking International Men’s Day, we will have two blog posts aimed at celebrating men. On one post we will be suggesting why and where men can get pampered. (We will put the man in Mani-pedis. Also think spas!). On the second, we will list some adrenaline inducing  activities that men can enjoy in and around Nairobi.

If that won’t give you ideas on how you can celebrate the men in your life on International Men’s Day, we have many more ideas on our website. Simply browse in sections such as the food and travel section,  gift shops etc.
